We speak and sometimes when we speak, we don’t pay attention.
We may like to deny it but we do.
And sometimes we use these little add-ins that slowly erode our credibility.
Known as Crutch Words, these little spoilers ruin our image, making seem a little less intelligent.
They often creep up without us even noticing, and undermine our entire message.
Terms to be avoided at all costs:
Basically, honestly, obviously, actually, like, you know, these are used so often that they have become utterly meaningless and empty.
Seriously, as opposed to all other nonsense I have been saying in this wonderful clown costume!
Right? Because the question mark is not enough, right?
For what it’s worth, as opposed to my words not being worth anything?
Personally, are you sure you are the one talking?
Okay … um, you should take a moment, breathe and carry on…
Whatever, just whatever!
And literally, which for some unknown reason has come to mean the exact opposite of literally. Literally!
Honestly, for what it’s worth, like I obviously shouldn’t have to actually mention … um … how to basically not use any unnecessary words, like literally, right?
So, here’s the thing, pay attention to what you say. When you speak, eliminate these little bad words from your vocabulary and you’ll be surprised how quickly you begin to notice it in others.
When you make a conscious choice to eliminate these words from your everyday speech, then you’ll sound better before you know it.
It’s merely a question of making the effort. Because your words matter!
Have a great week!
P.S. What are the words you would like to see eradicated? I look forward to your comments.
Feel free to share this with anyone who might like a chuckle.

words to never say
words to remove from your speech
